Italian Salad Dressing
« on: June 08, 2004, 04:36:40 PM »
Anyone here know of a good brand of Italian salad dressing?  In America I liked Wishbone brand.. but here at Safeway they only have ones that I'm completely unfamiliar with.  They do have Newman's Own, but I've tried that and didn't like it.  Have also tried a few others, but I'm really wanting something a bit closer to Wishbone Italian.. Any suggestions?

Not sure, but add bleu cheese and ranch to those as well.  I need a good dressing for cobb salad.

Any suggestions?

Yes..Always make your own! loads tastier than bottled and easy to do. use different oils (walnut, Anchovlie, etc) and interesting vinigars (british malt, balsamic, rice wine, etc) in a 2 to three ratio and season. I have tons of those ingredients on hand all the time. Lots better than bottled and cheaper over the long run too!

good old extra virgin, basamic and salt/white pepper always does the trick for me!

I was a 'ranch' only person in the US and I've yet to find a suitable ranch replacement here.  So now I've switched to Cardini's Caeser salad dressing.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

I've yet to find an italian I like so would make my own of that as well.

I oike the Paul Newman brand - they sell his ranch & italian at Tescos.
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Yeah see, the Paul Newman is the only one I reconize at Safeway, so i tried that and didn't like it.. :(  As far as making my own, I'm far too lazy (and too broke) to buy all the stuff for it.  I'm just needing a fix every now and again. :)

We found Hellman's Italian Dressing while looking for a Ranch substitute. It's the creamy kind and even my kids like it. :)
