I don't know if different counties do things slightly differently.  I received the approval from the council first, then the Home Office invitation letter showed up three days later.  So I knew I had the approval, but I had to wait for the HO invitation (with its magic number) to book the ceremony.

Just trying to see if anyone is aware of the current times out of Liverpool right now (I know most people mention Sheffield, but my citizenship application was sent to Liverpool).   It's been two weeks and they haven't even deducted the money or sent an email acknowledgement. When I applied last winter (long story, they changed their forms and told me to re-file) they acknowledged receipt within a week.   As everyone I'm sure knows, it's hard to sit patient!

I'm worried as well. It's been four weeks and I've heard nothing and no money deductions either.  :(

Someone will come along to correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Sheffield is for visa processing and the citizenship applications go to Liverpool.  I know mine went to Liverpool because the NCS gave me a tracking number.  Sorry, I can’t comment on the times, though.

I have just sent them an email and got a generic response which states that they send you an acknowledgement within six weeks. If you haven't received it by then, you can contact them through email and enquire. Gosh I didn't think it would take so long to even get an acknowledgement letter. Usually within a week, they would send me a letter for everything else so far. I guess there's a back log.

Geez!  Well I'm glad you found out that much!  Back in November they deducted and emailed in under 2 weeks.  I wonder what in the world they're doing right now but this doesn't bode well for the amount of time it's going to take for the approval  :\\\'(

My papers were received on April 29th (4.5 weeks ago)and I still have not heard a word. No email, no letter, no account deduction.   I sent an email to the contact they gave in the guide and the automatic response said they are aiming to acknowledge receipt within 6 weeks and to only contact them if it's been 8 without word. Seems insane to me.

Here is an update on mine. It is taking about four weeks for the fees to be taken, as I learned from immigrationboards.com. They apparantly do all the checks first before taking fees out.

Applied as ILR plus one year.
Application overnight mailed: 22/04/15
Delivery confirmed: 23/04/15
Fees taken out :21/05/15
Acknowledgment letter and Biometic invite: 23/05/15
Biometrics taken: 29/05/15..
So now we wait, but it looks as if two to three weeks after biometrics given for all to be resolved.

Hi guys just an update. I got my acknowledgement five weeks after submission and money was taken out straight away. Did my biometrics and now waiting. Hopefully we will all hear back soon.

Oh that's good!  I'm now at 6 weeks with no acknowledgement, no money deducted, nothing.  Frustrating is an understatement

Hang in there. I think there's a huge backlog unfortunately.

Hello fellow naturalisation applicants,

One question before submitting my application, am I allowed to travel abroad while waiting for approval of my application?

Kind regards,
Vanessa

As long as you use the NCS, you can travel once the Home Office has your application in hand. If you apply yourself you can't travel because they'll have your passport.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012
FINALLY A CITIZEN! 29/2/2012

In case it helps alleviate the worries of anybody else who's been waiting, I though I'd chime in to say that I received a letter approving my citizenship application today – exactly six months to the day that I posted it. I thought I'd be a pretty straightforward case, and didn't expect it to take so long, so I've been pretty worried. Hope the best for everybody else.
