UK: New US Embassy building design revealed

Personally, I like the proposed gardens and "moat" better than the actual building, which just looks a bit dull...
Summer 97 - first visited friends in London
99-00 - studied at Uni of Sussex on exchange
Feb 02 - moved to London on BUNAC
Sep 02 - WP granted (IT skills shortage list)
Sep 04 - WP renewed
Sep 06 - WP renewed again (screwed by 4-5 year ILR change)
Sep 07 - ILR!
March 09 - Citizenship!
July 09 - bone marrow transplant :(
18 Sep 10 - wedding!
Mar 12 - half marathon in Paris! 1:47:12!
Oct 12 - Amsterdam FULL marathon! 3:48:23!

I dont care much for the new design either. The moat idea is a must for safety.
The current Embassy is hideous. I am sure the people of Mayfair will be glad when it moves.

To me, it looks like a building that people in the 60s would have designed as "The Building of the Future" or something like that.  There should probably be flying cars circling it.  :P ;)

Not very inspiring, is it.

And whoever is going to build it is very brave. To have it totally open like that seems rather risky in this post 9/11 world. Call me a pessimist but I can already see the headlines.

It's a bit "different." I'm sure it will grow on people like City Hall has.

I worked in the area for a while. If I'm not mistaken in my impression, it's pretty much a big, gray industrial park. If nothing else, the embassy should raise the tone.
