It's a kewl area to take your parents to :)

As far as Stonehenge goes, if you are going to stay in Salisbury, there is a tour coach that departs from the coach station that goes to Stonehenge.  I think the last coach departs Stonehenge at 3 in the afternoon. May want to check that for sure.

In Salisbury it's self, you should go to the Cathedral, and see the Magna Carta. Also, it's Market Day on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which is good fun. I go there alot myself.  The atmosphere is really neat.

Bath is loads of fun as well. I recommend taking one of the tour buses around Bath, and that will give you an idea of what there is to see in the city. It's pretty easy to walk to most things. The Roman Baths are astounding, and alot more extensive than I had thought. If you have the time, see about taking a canal boat out of Bath for a day or two. It's a great way to see some of Georgian Bath, off the beaten track.

Lisa and Graham know lots more about the area than I do, so hopefully they will be along to tell you what 'not to miss' :)

Have fun :)

Hmm ... yes, we live halfway between Stonehenge and Bath so we should know the area.  Salisbury and Stonehenge and Bath are all great places to see ... but I don't really know any hotels in Salisbury (which I think was the thrust of the question) as we're just too close to stay.  We do know (pretty well) the local places to stay in our town (12 miles from Bath); probably not what you're looking for as things to do in the evening (especially over the next upcoming holiday weekend, which I think is when you're coming) will be pretty limited.

A suggestion, though.  Don't look to doing Salisbury, then Stonehenge, then Bath, then back to Salisbury to stay;  that would mean you driving up and down about 40 miles on slowish roads; better to do all you want in Salisbury (including any staying), then Stonehenge, then on to Bath.  If we're around, you're welcome to drop in here for a coffee too if we're around - but email / call ahead to make sure.

We stayed in Salisbury at a very nice hotel, The Milford Hall Hotel.

If you decide to stay there, call them directly and ask for room availability in the main house. Our room was really nice.  I am pretty sure that room pictured in the link is in the newer addition. It was a very pleasant hotel and within walking distance to the Cathedral.  There is a great Tai restaurant also on Castle Street (same side) between the Hotel and Town Center.

Oh, thank you so much!

TEBS: I can't tell you how excited the 'rents are to see the Magna Carta - we didn't know it was located there!  My husband and I will return for one of the canal boat rides, we only will be going for 2 nights/3days this time, so I think we will stick to bath!

GrahamE: What a neat area to live in, and thank you for 1. the invitation and 2. the advice, we are rearranging our plans, on the maps we thought the areas were closer.

Jules: that hotel looks lovely!  I let you know if we do stay there (we may go to Bath now instead).  I love Thai food, too...

This is an update for anyone who may come looking for info.

We ended up staying outside of Bath at a lovely/reasonable/clean place: http://www.toghillhousefarm.co.uk/.  that I would highly recommend to anyone.
There is a free carpark nearby with a shuttle into Bath (5 minutes) which is a very european (I would add romantic) city with truely interesting history.

The  countryside gorgeous, I  wanted to get out of the car and jump over a stone wall and run across the green fields towards the rolling hills... sorry, it is really beautiful.
We could see Bristol and the border of Whales from where we stayed, which looked very inviting as well.

Stonehenge is exactly what it is, and crawling with tourists--like us!  I enjoyed seeing it and I suppose most people are wistful to see it alone and inside the formation, but we are just lowly tourists...
