FLR-M extension successful, but no Grant of Leave letter

When my first FLR-M application was successful, I was sent a letter from the Home Office which stated 'Grant of Leave to Remain, Five Year Partner Route' and then my BRP card arrived separately after that.

I have just now been granted my FLR-M extension, but I only received an email informing me that my application had been successful and that my leave was valid until the 26th of Mar 2025. A few days later I received my BRP card.

I was expecting a letter like the first time (would prefer to have this for my records as opposed to an email), but I assume I'm not getting one as I would have received it by now.

Is this because . . .

a) You only get sent a letter when you receive your first grant of leave, and not for a subsequent extension.

or

b) They aren't sending out these letters anymore. For example, my BRP expires on the 31st of December 2024 because they are doing away with physical cards completely and are moving to a digital/online system. Perhaps this has something to do with the transition over to digital etc.

The BRP is the official document which proves your visa status.  I wouldn't worry about the letter.

This is a function of the new online system introduced a couple of years ago… I don’t believe it has anything to do with getting rid of physical BRP cards because that was only announced in the last couple of months.

They were supposed to just start issuing a new type of BRP card in 2025, but then they decided that they are getting rid of them completely and it’s all going digital.

If this is in fact the case, then I assume that I will need to apply for my ILR within 28 days of my current leave expiring on the 26th of March 2025.  The Grant of Leave letter from my previous application did specifically mention this, but the recent email did not.

You can apply for ILR up to 28 days before you reach 5 years on FLR(M).

So, the important date is the start date of your first FLR(M) visa… you count 5 years from that date, and you can apply for ILR 28 days before that.

I see from your previous posts that your first FLR(M) was granted on 14th February 2020.

Assuming that was the start date printed on your first BRP, you should reach 5 years on 14th February 2025… therefore, you should be able to apply for ILR from 17th January 2025.

The latest date you can apply is 26th March 2025.
