My dearly departed .......Who to Advise regarding his ILR BRP
« on: August 25, 2022, 06:24:09 PM »
I am confused and have posted something in the wrong place.  My brain is mush.  My darling husband had Settlement/Indefinite Visa to Remain in the UK, I am British with dual citizenship, living in the UK, he died earlier this month; can anyone advise me whom I should notify regarding his Residence Permit?

Oh sweetheart, I am so so so sorry.

I'm not sure you actually need to notify UKVI as he was on ILR, but there would be zero harm in returning his BRP with this form:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/768465/coc-_migrant_-12-18.pdf

And just explain he's passed and they can cancel his ILR.  May prevent anyone trying to use his BRP fraudulently in the future.

Big humongous hugs.  Don't let this occupy your mind.  If you never inform anyone, it won't matter.  Sending lots of love your way!

KFdancer,
Thank you for your reply and especially for your kind words, it is a difficult time but I will just continue to plan a couple of hours in advance and things will get done.  Thank you.

No advice regarding the BRP, but wanted to say so sorry for your loss, and sending loads of virtual hugs!  [smiley=hug.gif]

A bit late, but am just seeing this post and felt compelled to send my thoughts to you, LMR. I was on the flipside of your situation (USC who was on a spousal visa with my UKC husband when he died).

I absolutely understand the mush brain -- and the gajillion emotions that go along with it. If you ever want to talk to someone who's been through a similar experience, just know that I'm here and would be happy to connect. It's so hard, I know. As we say, "the club of which no one wants to be a member".
