Who's been through the Online Naturalisation process?

Hello again, UK-Yankee - it's been a while!

I'm finally going for my naturalisation. I've been in the UK continuously since 2008 and I don't anticipate any problems. I was delighted to see you can apply online now - though it's in beta.

I remember -  I think! - having my biometrics done for my fiancee visa, but the visa in my passport doesn't look like it has a chip. Should it? For safety's sake, should I have biometrics done again?

I'm right at the end of the application and I kind of hate to go back to that point. Will there be some place at the end for questions or remarks, so I can repeat this question to the immigration authorities?

You don't have a choice. Biometrics is part of the application.

They ask if you've already had them done, and I said yes.

Biometrics are a requirement of every single visa application you make, and they also made them a requirement for citizenship a few years ago.

This is so that:
a) they have updated biometrics details for you
and
b) they can confirm that you are the same person who gave biometrics last time

It’s been in so-called ‘beta testing’ for about 5 years now, and I don’t recall anyone mentioning any significant bugs.

It’s not really a new process - everything has been done online since late 2018.

No, you do not need to send off your passport or any other documents, as everything is scanned and uploaded, same as for FLR and ILR.

You can even travel while your citizenship application is processing as it is not a visa application and you will still have a valid visa on which to re-enter the country.
