Visa type D - Partner (standard) only 3 months??!
« on: May 15, 2023, 06:57:46 PM »
My husband received his Visa type D - Partner (standard) today, but it is only showing validity through September 2023? I was under the impression this was for 2 years and 9 months, and that he would apply for settlement at that time. But perhaps there is a mistake, or something else needs to be done within those 3 months that I have somehow missed?

Congratulations .

You haven’t missed anything .

The visa is issued in 2 parts:
1) a visa vignette sticker in his passport valid for 3 months (it used to be 30 days but has just been changed to 3 months)… this is valid for his intial entry into the UK

2) a Biometrics Residence Permit (BRP) card, which is valid for 2 years and 9 months, and which he needs to collect from a designated UK Post Office within 10 days of arriving in the UK. (Note: while the visa is valid 2 years, 9 months, the BRP card will likely only be valid until 31st Dec 2024, as they are getting rid of BRP cards in 2025 and moving everything online).

He should also have received a letter with his passport (or possibly sent separately), explaining all of the above, and giving the address of the Post Office to pick up his BRP.

OK phew thank you!! I had a feeling...

No, there was no letter (we went through Los Angeles office and it arrived within 11 days) but I think it is in the application and we have that printed somewhere. I remember doing and seeing that and not being to clear on what it was, so now that makes sense!

My wife's spousal visa application was approved last month and there was a delay in receiving the decision letter. I telephoned UKVI about it on the number provided here:  https://www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi-inside-outside-uk/y/outside-the-uk/applying-for-british-citizenship-and-nationality and it was passed to their escalation team. The letter was then sent to her by email the following delay.
