I’m just finishing up my ILR application and working with a lawyer we’ve used previously and had successfully applied with before.

The application asks if you have any conditions that require medical assistance and asks for a consultant letter. I have an autoimmune disorder but only see a consultant 1 time a year unless I become ill—which has only happened once in the 12 years I’ve been here. Do I need a letter from the consultant? I’m confused as to if medical assistance means ongoing regular care or if it just means you have a specialist who sees you. The lawyer said the consultant letter is unnecessary, but I’d like a second opinion.

The lawyer also said it’s recommended but not required to have letters from family and friends and ourselves saying our relationship is genuine. However, we’ve been granted two visas on the presumption our relationship is genuine and have a child together born very recently, whose birth certificate is included in this application (and we are both on her birth certificate). I’d like to get this application done and dusted, so how much is this REALLY recommended? Like am I risking something by not doing this?).

Hi, not sure about the consultant letter…hopefully one of the amazing experts here will know. However, you absolutely do NOT need or want letters from family or friends it isn’t necessary and only means that UKVI has more information to sort through. Honestly, as the experts and many successful applicants will tell you….you certainly do not need a lawyer at all unless your case has weird complications. Ask your questions here and I guarantee you’ll get accurate advice and get your BRP.

Rick is right, you don’t need letters from family./ friends.

When  we applied I just wrote a few sentences describing how much care and medical involvement is required. There was no stipulation to provide a doctors letter. I haven’t seen anyone else here mention it either. Are you reading the form correctly?

I took a screenshot of the question. It’s possible I’m not reading it correctly but it seems like that’s what it’s asking?: https://ibb.co/Kzmk6N5

Yes
I don't think this is asking about a regular medical condition as it is asking about in home care and medical assistance. I have an autoimmune condition and I have several consultants and I selected no because I don't require at home care or any personal care type of assistance.

Ok. That’s what I was thinking…like if you have active cancer or need dialysis or a home care team but I wanted to be sure.

That's how I read it too - it's asking about medical care or assistance where someone regularly comes into your home to help/care for you.

As larrabee said, I haven't heard anyone else on the forum mention this question, or having to get a consultant letter before (and I've been here for 17 years now!).
