Citizenship app update email
« on: July 26, 2023, 12:44:44 PM »
Hi all,

I completed my biometrics for my citizenship app in April. Today I received an email from UKVI requesting *more information.*

For background, I'm a US citizen but my place of birth is not the US.
My US passport states the country as my place of birth, not the town or city. So in all my UK visa applications (including this citizenship application), I've always put the country of birth, especially since the forms never required the town or city.

The email I received today asks me for the following (copied and pasted from email):
*Thank you for your application for British Citizenship. We need further information to enable us to consider your application. Please send all the documents listed below to the following address: generic UKVI email listed
Please provide your place of birth. Currently we only hold your country of birth, in order to continue with your application we also require your city or town of birth.*

Do you think I can just reply stating my country and city of birth?
Has anyone had this before? What did you do?

They seem to just be asking for that. I expect if they wanted your birth certificate they would have asked for it but if you have it, I'd be inclined to include that too for good measure.
Good news that they are working on your application.  :)

Thanks for your reply! I don't have my birth certificate....in past visa applications (not this one) I've always included a signed cover letter that states my city and country of birth.
Do you think including a signed cover letter and then repeating the info in the text of the email is enough?

Yes, I'm glad they're working on it! But my heart was beating super fast when I saw the email though!

If you don't have your birth certificate, I'd just send the email. That is all they ask for after all.

Yes, it's so nerve racking!  Hang in there.  :)
