FYI - Wash Sale & "Bed & Breakfast" taxation differences
« on: March 21, 2024, 01:06:30 PM »
The US won't let you sell and buy back a stock in order to take a loss, which they call a "wash sale". The UK has more stringent requirements, where you can't sell and buy back a stock even if you make a profit. I wasn't aware of this, and nearly got caught out.

You can sell and buy something similar, such as sell Vanguard SP500 (VOO) and buy Vanguard Total Stock Market (VTI).

Most annoying.
