Starting this thread off because we're finally coming up to the last (hopefully) application.

First question, when can we submit the application? We got notice on the 6th May 2022 that the extension had been approved (5 year route).

I'm desperately hoping the visa changes they announced on the 4th December aren't going to affect us because we'll be screwed but is there anything we need to know right now to help with the application?

The date that matters is the date you either first entered the UK (if you entered on a spousal visa) or the date your first FLR(M) was approved (if you entered on a Fiance visa).

You can apply for ILR up to 28 days before you reach 5 years from that date.

The date of approval of your most recent FLR(M) extension is not relevant.

I see from your previous posts that your partner arrived in the UK in late September 2019. Therefore they will reach 5 years in the UK in late September 2024 and will be able to apply for ILR from late August 2024 (28 days before the relevant date in September).

Based on how it has worked for previous rule changes, the new requirements will most likely only affect new applicants who are not living in the UK on spousal or FLR(M) visas yet. I imagine those already on the 5-year or 10-year route to ILR will not be affected and will only have to meet the current rules. We will see what happens when the details are announced though.

Get the Life in the UK test out of the way sooner rather than later. One less thing to worry about.

I thought the 10 year route to ILR didn't have an income requirerment?

Can anyone suggest good resources for studying for the Life in the UK test?

Not sure of my partners learning style so a variety could be useful.

Study the official book. The guide for new residents. https://www.officiallifeintheuk.co.uk/shop

Then do online practice tests until consistently passing easily. There are loads of free ones.

I have a hypothetical question.

If my partner doesn't successfully complete the life in the UK test by the time we need to apply for the visa, what happens?

They're so so so anxious about it because we really fell off the wagon at practicing and the application deadline is next month I think.

I believe it then defaults to another FLRM visa

Partner took the test yesterday and passed!!

Yay!! No idea how much they passed by but thank god that bits done. Now to finish gathering all the documents together so we can submit next month.

I have a new question.

I started my current job on Monday 11th March (finished employment with my old company on the Friday 8th March).

We're planning on submitting the application WC/ 20th September I think (partner had officially landed in the UK on 25th September 2019).

That means by the time we submit the application Id have been working there 6 months, I receive a payslip and get paid on the 24th of every month.

With that, will we need to apply under Cat B as I don't believe I'll have enough payslips by that point to make it under Cat A?

I'm looking it up, but does that mean I then need to supply 12 months of payslips?

Coming back to this that no-one answered yet, pretty confident we're applying under category B and I've done the maths and we're all good at meeting the requirements.

I left my old job in march 2024 and stepped straight into my current one. When I submit the 12 months of payslips (6 months from old job and 6 months from new job) do I also need to supply a letter from both employers?

What should the letter say?
