So just a FYI in case you use the IRS identity protection pin option and are waiting for them to send you a new one this year.
Every year I've received a security PIN from the IRS to use when filing my tax forms electronically. It's a way to avoid identity theft, if you've had your information stolen in a security breach somewhere. Since I've had mine grabbed in at least six different data breaches, I go the IRS ID protection route. As I only use it once a year I completely forgot that they issue a new one every year and the old one becomes invalid. And since they had not sent me a new one, but the tax filing season is now open, I filed my taxes electronically with the PIN I used last year. It bounced back as "not accepted", of course.
Eventually I sorted out that I could go to the IRS website and request an updated one, after logging in through ID.me. Did that, new pin generated, 1040 accepted. I still haven't heard from them, but perhaps my manually generating a new one flipped some switch and took me off the "send a new one out" list.
