Great ideas from Rachel

Boy Rachel from accounting just keeps coming up with more and more great ideas to make our lives better doesn’t she?  Just as I’m mulling over an escape to France, with its fantastic tax treaty for US retirees, mostly due to possibility of further hikes to income tax, capital gains tax and now possibly doubling council tax, she comes up with a dastardly plan for a possible exit tax!  I cannot believe how much worse the tax situation here has become over the last 10 years.

I wondered how long it would be before she came up with that idea since the UK is an outlier when it comes to exit taxes. Notable countries with an exit tax are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, South Africa and the USA.

Yes this is much touted as just getting in line with other nations, but, as with IHT, whereas other nations bring it in for amounts above a few million our Rach is probably thinking more along the lines of anything over 50 quid!
