Citizenship Referee is a relative
« on: January 19, 2026, 03:39:33 PM »
Hello all

We've hit a bit of a sticky situation, where my partner has submitted her application for citizenship, but named her sister-in-law as one of her referees. She's now seen the bit of the guidance that says no relatives, but these seems no way to amend the application once submitted. She has an alternative referee now, and he has filled in the referee form - is there any way for her to amend her application? Her biometrics appt is on 29 January.

Hep and advice much appreciated.

I think you can add it as a cover letter with your evidence. I had a look around (one of our referees is moving property, and I was trying to think if this should be mentioned in the evidence), and I found lots of people (eg on Reddit) who have realised too late that some part isn't right. The general view is that a correction will be good but you shouldn't get too stressed about adding a cover letter.
