You may have to apply for a distribution via mail. I know when I started taking 401(k) distributions, it was hard work, especially getting documents notarized. Your SSN remains with you for life, keep in mind SS Retirement benefits from 62 if you want to file prior to 67. SDFCU offers more conventional banking if you also need a U.S. Debit Card. They allow a 'Spouse' of a  U.S. Citizens and Green Card Holder to open a joint account. Depending on your circumstances this maybe an option for you both, even if you need to get married!

Thanks Barcrest, SDFCU not an option as I am not a US citizen and never have been, hence my unfamiliarity with the US tax system
