Wedding gift for Fiance?
« on: March 14, 2005, 11:25:23 PM »
Okay, DF is a bit of a gadget guy (me being the gadget girl).  I'm really having trouble thinking of a good wedding gift for him.  My first thought was a BOSE system, and I was excited that I'd finally decided to drop $500+ on a gift.  BUT--a couple of months ago he started going on and on about how when we move to the states he wants to buy a BOSE, and how no matter what I say, he is getting one.  So, if I got him one then, he would have thought that I got it because he was so insitant on it--had he never mentioned it to me, it would have been the PERFECT gift.  I digress...

So, I'm looking for new ideas.  But it needs to be something for HIM, not something that I would purchase for myself or want to borrow from him (GPS is out, since I already have two).  So, here is one idea, but I don't know if it is a good wedding gift: http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productview/sku=SI632BLU/catid=2003/pcatid=20 . Any other thoughts or gadget ideas?

Yeah - but how about a 'talking GPS' that you would have installed in the car?  I mean the kind like you can sometimes get in a US rental car.  When DH & I were dating, on one of our USA vacation trips -- we lucked out & got a rental car with one of these in it.  It goes 'bing bong' and tells you where to turn, when to turn, etc -- if you plug in the address of where you're going.  It was really, really cool & he *loved* playing with it.  I guess it's more than a GPS too because it had the whole USA road system, highways, streets, etc in the system, plus the voice technology & so on.  No idea how much that sort of thing costs though, but if it was affordable -- would really help your guy find his way around the 'new' country.  Other than that, how about some camera type stuff?

Yeah, he's a non-driver, so that's a gadget that I would end up using more than him.  I did think about a handheld elecronic map--not a GPS, but a map thing where you can plug in the address you are heading to and get directions by foot.

Maybe I will spend my lunch break at the Sharper Image tomorrow...

I am making a gift for him as well: a album of our "pre-married" life together from our first date until the wedding.  I planned on taking him to my favorite hide-out in the mountains at home to give it to him after the rehearsal dinner...I just wanted something gadgety to go along with it.  I'll spend whatever I need to if it is the perfect gift for my perfect man!

How about driving lessons?  ;)  Hard to imagine being a non-driver in the US!
