Hmmmm....Haggis!

My friends and family give me odd looks for eating the stuff, but as someone already mentioned, it's about the same as hotdogs, Spam, corned beef hash and the like.

DF is a veggie so we had the fake stuff last year.  This year I'm state-side, so I will just have to celebrate with a dram of whiskey and a box of shortbread instead...

We got their veggie haggis and they were lovely!!!!! Lots of peppery bite and tons of oats and good things!

I hope it's whisky and not whiskey.  ;)

Tell us how it goes, otter.  Gotta say, though, that sounds boak  :D.  There was haggis pizza in Costco at the weekend, and it just . . . ugggh . . . rank!

We had the veggie stuff b/c I find haggis the boak and so does Dh (who is Scots).  It was nice.  Our daughter ate a couple of bites before tucking into the tatties and neeps.  Of course, she had no problem w/the cloutie dumpling covered in warm custard.   :D  She liked that!

It was great!   I cant see why people dont like haggis... it tastes just like a peppery, spicy mince with chewy bits of oat & barley in it.

The lasagne was really easy to make... slice open a haggis, and make layers of haggis, sliced tomato, and fresh parmesan, in between the sheets of lasagne.    Make a bechamel (i made mine kind of spicy by adding garlic and black pepper), pour it over the lot, cover with more parmesan, drizzle with olive oil & bake at 180c for 45 minutes.

I think this recipe would be good with the veggie haggis as well...

Sounds interesting....

It's not really the taste of haggis that I don't like....it's usually the texture.  (Can't stand tapioca either!)  Most of the haggis I've had has been mushy and overmoist.  I did have one once that came from Marks and Spencer....it was really good.  Nice and spicy, a bit chewy, not 'dry' but not at all soggy.  Can't stand soggy food!!!
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I had a pint of Haggis Hunter's Ale - does that count?  ;)

Haggis ain't all that bad. When you just get over what it actually is, it's quite good.
