Favorite workout tunes?
« on: August 30, 2007, 07:10:08 PM »
Ok, I'd never used an mp3 player before (no need), but now that I'm going to the gym - I resurrected an old cheapie that Steve had stashed away in a junk drawer.  I find it removes the boredom of cardio equipment & motivates me along, but I'm still in the process of compiling all the 'just right' tunes.  So far, my favorites are:

Mrs Robinson - Simon & Garfunkel
Cecilia - Simon & Garfunkel
Short Skirt, Long Jacket - Cake
Hit the Road, Jack - Ray Charles
What'd I Say - Ray Charles
The Jeep Song - The Dresden Dolls
Backstabber - The Dresden Dolls
Shores of California - The Dresden Dolls
Light Pollution - Bright Eyes

I think I am going to have to ask Santa for an iPod cos this mp3 player doesn't hold much.

What songs do you like working out to?
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

- from Anthem, by Leonard Cohen (b 1934)

M.I.A. is my current favorite Get Up and Move music. She's great.

Eminem- Lose Yourself  (this song ALWAYS gets me energized when working out)
Rascall Flats (CARS)- Life is a Highway
Celene Dion- I Drove All Night (dance remix)
Gloria Esetfan- Turn the Beat Around
Faith Hill- A Little Piece of my Heart
Faith Hill- If my Heart had Wings
Cyndi Lauper- Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

It's eclectic, but that's the way I like it:

I Don't Feel Like Dancing - Scissor Sisters
Icky Thump - The White Stripes
The Passenger - Iggy Pop
ABC - The Jackson 5  (I defy anyone not want to move when they hear it!)
Henrietta - The Fratellis
SexyBack - Justin Timberlake
Blue Jean - David Bowie
Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Don't Fight It - Kenny Loggins & Steve Perry
Add It Up - Violent Femmes
World In My Eyes - The Cure
Love Will Keep Us Together - Captain & Tennille
Grace Kelly - Mika
Thnks Fr Th Mmrs - Fall Out Boy
New York City - They Might Be Giants
It's The End of the World As We Know It - R.E.M.
Stacy's Mom - Fountains of Wayne

Tom Petty - Running Down a Dream
U2 - Elevation
NIN - Closer
Nelly Fertado - Promiscuous Girl
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
Beastie Boys - Body Movin
Blue Man Group - Boston (although all their stuff is great to sweat to)
Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats
Christina Aguilera - Fighter
Finger 11 - Paralyser
Pink - Stupid Girls / U and Ur Hand

That is a start...sort of eclectic as well, but very well suited to keeping me going while working out.  Hope this helps!

The Run Lola Run soundtrack is always good when I'm on the treadmill (where I need the most motiviation!)

Also, Love is a Battlefield always gets me running a bit faster whenever it comes up on my IPod shuffle.

I usually like anything up beat that has a good beat that I can get in rhythm with.  I'll have to look at my ipod again to see what the top songs on my play list are.

Don't ask me why, but R.E.M.'s Document is what I listen to almost exclusively when I'm doing a BIG house clean.  Maybe it's because it begins with "Finest Worksong"?

As long as I can sing along to it, it works. Even if I can't sing out loud without clearing out the gym, I can sing it in my head. I find it helps me to take my mind off any pain I might be in since I focus on the music.

Looks like there are some other country music fans!  ;D

I have really enjoyed Gwen Stefani's music or Orson for working out.

Country music is my first choice of what I choose to listen to then pop, then rock.

Elwood: What kind of music do you usually have here?
Claire: Oh, we got both kinds. We got country *and* western.
