Under 1 yrs and chocolate
« on: February 02, 2005, 10:50:23 PM »
What age do parents in the UK give their kids chocolate? I have always been told not to give it to kids under 2 years. My SIL sent my son a gift of chocolate buttons along with two bibs and it made no sense. Chris is only 7.5 months and that seems very early to send chocolate as a present.

I can't speak for parents in the UK, but I gave my dd chocolate when she was younger than 1 year.  I'd never heard that you shouldn't.  I know you're not supposed to give peanut butter under two-maybe that's why no chocolate?  Because you often see chocolate with that "Processed in a plant that processes peanuts" warning.

(Of course, I gave my dd a piece of peanut butter cup when she was like 8 months old because I wasn't thinking-but there's no history of peanut allergies or other food allergies in my family so it wasn't a big concern of mine anyway.  But that's just me.)

I'm with Staci.  A few chocolate buttons aren't going to hurt.  But it's your decision and he won't know if you keep the bib and eat the buttons yourself.   :)
