Official Exchange rate to use when doing 2003 US Fed Tax Return
« on: February 07, 2005, 01:07:24 PM »

I hope someone can assist as the US Embassy (IRS) website still shows the official exchange rate for 2003 (1.6421) and not 2004.  I tired to call them on the number listed on the website and a recording directed me to a US #.  When I called, to my surprise I was told that they don't provide that information????  I asked them if I was calling the IRS...thinking I had the wrong number? Yes, it was the IRS.  I don't understand why they can't/don't provide us with the rate?

Along with the official exchange rate to use I would also like to know what the worldwide income limit is for 2004? Is it the same as 2003 which was $80,000?

Thanks!

Julie

official exchange rate for 2004 is 1.8330

The foreign earned income exclusion amount for 2004 remains the same as 2003 at $80,000.

Hi Helen,

Thanks much for your posting!

Can't beleive that they didn't "up" the income exclusion beyond the $80,000 mark since the £ falsely, inflates your so called $ earning equiv in the UK.

Its a joke..because it is almost doubling peoples earnings over here!  :o

What happens if you make over the worldwide income exclusion?

Your advice would is appreciated.
