Clarification on spouse visa application

Hi

My US wife is about to apply for a spouse visa by post. Can someone please clarify a question we have :

- the supporting documentation about housing, my work status, and my passport etc. Do I need to mail those over to my wife in the US so that she can include them in the package she sends to the LA consulate, or can I send those documents direct to the Immigration dept here in the UK? The visa web page on the government site is a bit vague.

You should send them to her to include with her application. 

I agree with wishstar-- less chance of confusion and misplacement of documents if they are all sent in together.

I would honestly consider sending them FedEx or by some other special mail company.  My MIL sent us her old passport, birth cert., etc. in August by regular post (despite our pleas to send them by courier or at least Priority) and they were lost. She did have them put a tracking number on it but the number is no good outside the UK.

Same thing happened to us, Saf.  If you're going to send documents to the US, send them by courier or just regular post.  Otherwise they do tend to get lost for some reason!

SAF, have you called the airport where the package was received into the US?  Given your location, I'd wager it was Miami, which is where our documents went walk-about for a long time too.  (And we had done the tracking thing as well thinking that would help things....but it definitely didn't!) 

I've got about 20 different numbers I was given for different customs people and departments at Miami International if you want them.  (They have clearly been trained to pass the buck at that place.)  I raised absolute hell for a few days with those people trying to find Hamish's passport and whatnot.  They kept saying they couldn't find it, and when I finally spoke to one of the more senior people and let off some steam about it, it miraculously showed up in my mailbox the very next day!  Talk about trauma tho!
