mixing bowls
« on: February 15, 2005, 01:52:33 PM »
When I was little, my mom had a big blue melamine bowl we used for making cookies and things in. She also had some corning ware ones and I think a glass one and a metal one. But I LOVED the blue one and would never let her get rid of it, even after it cracked. Now she used it as a fruit bowl!

Since living here, I've had a hard time finding bowls that capture that same feeling for me. I know it's a bit silly and certainly not a major issue in my life but the glass and ceramic bowls readily available here were, well, just bowls.

For my bridal shower, I got lots of gift certs for Crate and Barrel and I found a great set of colored bowls. I bought them and brought them over in my suitcase. I ADORE them and I know that one day, I'll have kids who can't wait to make chocolate chip cookies (whether here or in the US) in the fun colored bowls.

Well, I just got the new Lakeland catalogue and guess what??? They have the bowls! So, if any of you are as silly as I am, you can get some, too! Aside from mixing, they are great for serving in. Their only fault is that they are not microwave safe. But I rarely use the nuker so it's no big deal for me.

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

No, it's exactly the same set as the link above. 6 bowls, 6 colors!

I like yours, too, Aimiloo. It seems that here, all the ceramic ones are beige or other neutrals. I love the brighter colors.

Yeah, our everyday disher are Denby White - it's or formal stuff, too!

I like to have some bright pieces for serving when it's more casual dining. We do'nt have any of the Denby White serving dishes yet but hope too one of these days.

The great thing about white dishes is that you can do so much with them!
