Does anyone know where to buy Epsom Salts?
« on: February 17, 2005, 02:16:59 PM »
Epsom Salts (also known as Magnesium Sulfate) are sold in the US in the first aid aisle of most drug and grocery stores.  You can take them in very small doses as a laxative  :o , but what I use them for is bath salts.

I've become addicted to salt baths, and put 2 cups of epsom salts in my bath every night when I'm in the US.  That means I go through a LOT of salts.  And it can't just be any bath salts.  There's something special about the magnesium that makes it particularly ideal for drawing toxins out through the skin.  (There's a chemical explanation for this, involving magnesium's affinity for carbon instead of sulfate, but it's been way too long since my college chemistry class to bother.)

Anyway, on my last visit, I FINALLY found some... a 500 ml box at Boots for £2 .  Here in the US, I pay less than $2 for a 4 lb sack!  Okay, now I know it's going to be more expensive, and that I'm probably not going to get to use them every night, but I'm hoping that somebody, somewhere in the UK sells them in larger quantities.

Any ideas?  Online sources?  The weight makes it too expensive to ship from the US, or I'd do that.

Best regards,

The US.  ;D

I've asked and asked -- you might have some luck at a "mom and pop" pharmacy -- but locally -- me -- nada
