A sad and stressful day
« on: January 18, 2021, 01:03:21 PM »
We were awoken this morning with a call from my husbands sister to tell us that my husbands 96 year old Dad has just died from the covid virus. As we are not allowed to travel it is a very stressful time because my sister in law will have to deal with everything on her own and we are feeling so helpless right now.

Thankfully he was not ill for long and he is now at peace.. :\\\'(

I am so sorry.  Huge hugs. The distance seems especially far right now.

Hey, Kezzie.  This isn't about me, but I just wanted to say, my dad passed away almost 8 years ago... it just a couple of weeks before I was to marry my husband here, and we had already booked to do my visa application the day after we married.  I didn't really feel like I could go home for the funeral without abandoning my visa progress (and my dad had told me right before I left with my fiancee visa: "no matter what you hear, live your life.  Do what you need to do," so he told me it was okay, whereas your husband doesn't have a choice).  Anyway.  I just want to say not going home was obviously very hard, even with my dad giving me "permission".  I relied on my now-husband so heavily in those first few weeks.  I know your husband will need you.  So if you need to talk and you worry about upsetting your husband more, we are here.  Take care of you so you can take care of him.  Warmest thoughts in this really awful time.

So sorry to hear, Kezzie.
I think about this a lot, since Covid... my parents are in their late 70s and not in perfect health.  The entire family already thinks I am a scumbag loser for 'abandoning' the family to live in Scotland.  If the worst should happen and they die and I'm unable to travel for the funeral, I wouldn't be able to 'prove' to them that I actually *do* care about them, and my poor sister will have to deal with everything on her own.  :(
Thankfully they've just been vaccinated, so hopefully that means they will be ok for a while.

My sympathies to you and your husband... I hope that once the shock wears off, he'll realise that 96 is a good innings and hopefully the father had a good life, and didn't suffer much at the end.
