meaning of "no acces to public funds"
« on: March 17, 2005, 06:10:33 PM »
That is on my entry permit and spousal Visa, which we just got (tada!). Since I'm a textile artists, I'm wondering if that means I can't apply for arts grants or be hired for a public project or take a government job, or just what it does mean. Any info? Thanks.

It means you can't claim benefits.

As Mindy already stated, it means NO benefits - Child Benefit (if your child is not British or on ILR), Tax Credits, Job Seeker's Allowance, Income Support, etc.

Some government jobs, however, have nationality requirements (such as, you must be a UK national to qualify for them), so check over your applications.

Of course you can try for an arts grant, there's a list of what's scoped here...
