Naps : Two to One

Out of curiosity... when did your child(ren) switch to taking one nap a day? Philip is in that weird transition stage where he wants to take 1 long afternoon nap but can't quite do it without being Cranky McCrankmeister.... so I was just wondering. :) You can vote up to 8 times, so I figure that is one per child assuming no one has 9 or more kids!!

She was about 1.  Her morning nap started getting shorter and shorter, and she started fighting it.  Finally, we just didn't lay her down for it, and she slept much better for her afternoon nap.  She still goes down for an hour from 3-4 (she's 20 months old now), and for the night from 8PM-8AM.

Niall stopped the morning nap around the one year mark too.  That being said, he takes one jolly long afternoon nap.  Between 2-3.5 hours.

That is exactly what Philip is doing. He'll act super tired (even laying his head on the floor), but is fighting his morning nap like it will kill him. So today for the first time I've kept him awake on purpose and we went out shopping... and he slept for 3 hours, 10 - 1. !! Let's hope it stays that way... he's always napped really well, and I'm glad to hear other babies have done what he's doing. First Time Mommy Syndrome.  ;D

Niall has a whacked sleep cycle.  We keep him up until 9-9:30pm because his father doesn't get home from London until 7:30-8:30pm.  We do this so that he can spend time with his dad and so we can eat as a family.

He gets up in the morning between 9-9:30am, then has a nap between 2-5pm.  It's been like that for over a year and working rather well for us.

it was a bit funny how she'd fight it.  her eyes would grow heavy, and she'd shake her head from side to side, yank her dummy out of her mouth, kick her feet and wave her fists, as if she were angry with herself for being tired.  so we took out the nap and her afternoon one went up to 1.5 hours.

That to me actually sounds perfect.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I figured it's easier than starting a new one.....

Did anyone have a child that held on to two or more naps after the one-year mark?  While I'm not complaining that he's taking two, it really puts a damper on my being able to get things done outside the house.  Especially since his long nap is usually from 10-12.  Any hints on transitioning him to one?

Calvin (almost 9 months now) is starting to drop his afternoon nap... but usually is a very-irritable-crying-baby by the afternoon.. he has an afternoon nap maybe 2 days a week now...

Well Philip was heading straight to One Napville.... and now he's back on 2 and I we're all ina  muddle. He's been going to sleep at 6pm on the dot for months now (waking up at 6am on the dot) - and now he won't fall asleep until 7 or 7:30 each night. I don't know if it is because 2 naps a day is actually too much sleep for him now and so his bedtime is getting later (fair enough, that suits me anyway!) - - or if it is totaly not nap related and he's just changing his bed time to a more tiddloer-like time?

I don't know. :/

As far as keeping him awake when I need to I always rely on baths and the playground!

It's good to know that mine is not the only child who is fickle with their naps.  I supposed I shouldn't complain; I remember when he would only nap for 45 minutes all day.  Guess just a little mom freak out.  :-\\\\

Jack is 9 months and he only takes a morning nap. He gets up about 630 and then naps at 1030 till around noon and then he's in bed for the night at 5pm. Pretty good schedule. My others used to take a nap at 10 and another around 230 and then bed for the night at 7.
