UK Payslip Question
« on: March 21, 2005, 10:00:04 AM »
Trying to make heads or tails of my temping payslip to finish my US taxes.

For my slip dated 31/12/04, I show:
Gross Pay to Date
Tax Free to Date
Taxable Pay to Date

but then there is a Previous Tax to date

anyone have any idea what previous tax to date is????  I've tried to contact my temping firm, but no one is calling me back!

thanks!

My guess is it's for the previous calendar year, in which of course, you were not here!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

i'm going to put in numbers, so you can get a true picture as it's really strange!

For my slip dated 31/12/04, I show:
Gross Pay to Date 10,500
Tax Free to Date 91.00
Taxable Pay to Date 658.00
Previous Tax to date 2700.00

this was for 2 months of work-i know that 2700.00 of taxes wasn't taken out over those 2 months, right?!

it's so strange.  but i don't want to mess up my taxes and not claim i paid enough!

I owuld have thought it was for the previous financial year, ie prior to 1 April 04 - were you working for the same agency then?

Actually, now I look at the figures, £2700 is probably the right amount of tax on £10 500 so if that was your gross pay for 2 months then yes you probably did pay that much tax.
