And if you like mysteries, try Elizabeth George, she's wonderful.

Absofruitly!!! Elizabeth George is the master (mistress?)! She's amazing. Fabulous plot-twisting mysteries combined with gorgeous literary writing. You can't go wrong with her!

My favourite authors of all time, however, are Ian McEwan and Oscar Hijuelos. Their words are beyond beautiful.

Is "Medieval Children" fiction or non?  And ditto "The Dreadful Judgement"?

I did read Restoration London, or rather, I've read it several times, but Restoration isn't really "my period", so while it was really interesting it isn't one of my "again and again" readers.  I wish she would go further back!

It's so hard to find good non-fiction history that really eals with day-to-day life, isn't it?  I love the Geis books "Life in a Medieval Castle", "Life in a medieval village" etc.)  Informative, very detailed, and fun too.

Medieval Children is non-fiction and The Dreadful Judgement is basically a fictionalised account - based on fact? Good stuff, though.  I wish Picard would go further back, too.  I really just eat history up. I do wish I was still working for Blackwell's Bookshop- we had the most *Fantastic* medieval history section.

I need an unlimited book budget. My discount isn't all that much better than what you can get from Amazon in some cases!

I have always said that my greatest desire is to have enough money to be able to walk into a bookstore and buy whatever I want.  I saw an Oprah show when she first started her book club and she went into a bookstore and was just choosing books left and right- she had stacks of them and I was SOOOO envious.  I usually look at titles in the bookstore that interest me and then head off to the library.  Maybe I'll win the lottery someday and be able to truly indulge myself!
p.s. thanks for all the suggestions- I just logged onto my library account and I have 6 books waiting for me, all suggestions listed here!   ;D
