Condenser Dryers
« on: October 05, 2021, 06:41:17 PM »
Any thoughts, good or bad, about condenser dryers nowadays?

We live in a relatively compact flat, and drying clothes in the winter can be a challenge.  DH has suggested a condenser dryer, and we have a small space in our bedroom where one would just about fit.  We're not looking for one to totally replace the clothes horse method, but to have one for times when we just need a little extra help getting things dry, or for that stubborn towel.

Does anyone have any recent experiences with them?  Any recommended brands/models?

We have an Indesit one and love it.  Model IDC75. Use it multiple times a week and we’ve had it for 4 years without a problem. Wasn’t too expensive either.

I guess all Indesit models are not the same!  Ours is a combo washer /  dryer (WDD7123) and it sucks.  It takes 5.5 hours to wash and dry.  All the clothes and the entire house smell like damp oily rags.  I still use it occasionally when I am feeling extremely lazy and ready to sacrifice the planet so I don't have to hang up my underwear.

I'm on the fence about condenser dryers but only because I was able to have a vented one. But if vented was not a possibility, I'd buy a condenser (or a heat pump) dryer in a heartbeat... I could not be without a tumble dryer!
eta When it's time to replace this one, I'll definitely look into the other types again.

We have a Hoover DynamicNext condenser dryer.  I use it regularly.  Sometimes it gets sluggish, which almost always means the condenser needs to be cleaned.  Very happy with it.

We have had a Beko condenser dryer since 2017 and it works great. It sits in an inside utility room on a shelf above the washing machine.

Instead of letting the condensate collect in the tray to empty later we put the drain tube down the same pipe as the washing machine drain. I think all condenser dryers will have this feature.
