Its really too bad that no one responded to your post and Im only sorry that this probably comes too late for you.
In general 10 days isnt really enough time to try and hook up a shipper to send your belongings. I hope you found someone and that it all arrived safe.
The absolute latest anyone should leave arrangement of a shipper to move a household is 4 weeks til your proposed move day so that the company you choose can have time to come out to you and assess your move, sign the contract agreements, and arrange for a packing/moving date.
Companies that Ive looked into include:
PSS - Reccommended by someone on British Expats.
Euro-USA - Reccommended by someone on British Expats. Shipper of the US Department of Defense and Star Bucks.
Britannia - Good quote but not reccommended by others.
Burke Brothers - Came on behalf of Allfreight for quote purposes, thinking about asking them for their own quote.
Allfreight - Best priced, and well reccommended, however it seemed they couldnt be bothered.
Simpsons - Rather expensive and wouldnt send someone to do a quote in person.
Sterling - Mostly corporate removals.
Most of the links to those companies can be found here
http://www.britsintheus.com/movers.htmMy best advice is: shop around and get lots of quotes. Assessments take only a few minutes of your time and could mean a savings of potentially thousands of pounds. Plan ahead and research! Remember things like booze and firearms have regulations that must be met when shipping. Be ruthless with what youre taking! Our move is going to cost us around £3k for a young couple's household - one bed, 1 sofa bed, 1 3 piece sofa suite, no appliances, no childrens belongings (because we dont have any) and normal household belongings. If you wont miss it - throw it away, give it away, or sell it. You can always get a new one cheaper in the states.
