Anyone in school with kid/s?

Looking into doing my postgrad in the UK- potentially Scotland, however, I am a single mom with a school-aged son. Would this even be feasable? Does anyone actually KNOW of any single international parents/ students? (For what it's worth, he'd be 8 or 9- US grade 3 or 4 by the time I'd be ready. . . . ) Aurgh. I just don't want to get in a bind once I'm "past the point of no return"

I don't personally know of anyone in your situation MissyMo  , so I can't offer any advice... but I'm currently a fulltime student in Scotland. Where in Scotland would you be interested in studying?

Sorry, don't know any single parents in this situation, as it would mean borrowing even more money for a bigger flat to accommodate you and you can only work part-time. 

Depending on the field, it might be cheaper to train in the States and then come over on a work permit.

I've got 2 years left of a double B.A. in English (Writing concentration) and Anthropology (archaeology concentration). (I started off as a youth ministry major???) Most of the US grad programs I'm  finding either focus on southwestern US or Middle East/Rome excavations- I'm looking more towards early western european settlements. Edinburgh and Glasgow both have good programs- there are some in England as well.
*Sigh*   You'd  think there are enough international students of med programs and such- and some of those guys bring over their families. . . BUT they're married- which makes a difference in the kid-juggling. . . Hmmm- things to ponder. But again- thank you, ladies for your input.

Being married or having a domestic partner also means the non-student one of you can work full-time, or the two of you can work part-time and have a combined full-time income, which can help a long way towards supporting a child. 

Lectures can also run until 6.30PM, meaning you may have the additional expense of having to pay for after-school care, which is not offered for free (at least in Edinburgh).  Tutorials can also take place on Saturdays in some areas. 

So- I need to sign up for the 1st "arranged marriages here" extravaganza I can find. . . Hmmmm. . .

Yeah- I knew about the spouse working. (With my luck I'd end up with a louse that wouldn't- which is why, so far, I've done better single  )
Well- I suppose I can see what kind of research grants I can dig up, see if I can write my way into a bit more money. . .
(Not that I've educated myself to be entirely unemployable- I am so smooth sometimes
