A question about IO
« on: April 14, 2005, 05:00:50 PM »
I am reading stories on this forum about people who get hassled by IOs even though they have a visa. Why would an IO hassle someone who already has a visa? I mean we already had to go through the application process.... so why would they need to hassle someone who has already obtained a visa.

Could the IO still deny entry ...even if you have a visa? ???

Technically, yes, the IO has the power to refuse a visa holder if they suspect that the visa was obtained fraudulently.

Have I actually heard of it happening to anyone on this site?  No.  Sometimes it's just that little power trip that IO's have that makes them hassle folks.

Yes they can still refuse entry, like Peedal says if there is a fraud issue or maybe if someone has illegal substances on them or something like that.  They still have to be sure you are the person in the passport and that you didn't buy the visa label down an alley in Bangkok so they are entitled to ask a few questions. I wouldn't expect anyone to get "hassled" though unless they gave strange answers to the questions they were asked.  If it makes you feel any better I am on a Brtish passport and still got asked questions on my return from a work trip to Africa - where exactly had I been and why.

Technically, yes, the IO has the power to refuse a visa holder if they suspect that the visa was obtained fraudulently.

If someone doesn't exercise ILE within 180 days of issue and then shows up at a POE, they will get a *handsome* grilling and most likely turned around.

Also late arrivals - i.e., past their 90 days - holding fiance and spousal probationary clearances would be advised to pack a lunch because they are going to be held up for a while...
