We watched The Two Ronnies Sketchbook the other night and there was one where "Ronnie the Larger" was an minister doing a sermon in Cockney rhyming slang.  It was hysterical!  Especially as he spent most of it using "Richard the Third" and leading you to believe it was *ahem* "turd" - when it was really "bird"!

Loved it!

I've been watching it as well.   I remember some of those sketches even though I haven't seen them for years!     Did you see the spoof of Mastermind, where the subject was answering the question before last?     Very clever writing there.

It's brilliant stuff.  My husband and I spend the whole time wondering why they just can't "write them like that anymore," you know?  Very very funny stuff.

Of course my husband likes the Phantom Rasberry Blower sketches!  I personally am fond of the closing musical ones.  :D

I was watching an old episode of EastEnders on UK Gold today, and it reminded me of another good bit of rhyming slang which might not be easily worked out:

brassic = skint  ('brassic' coming from 'boracic lint'... an old-time dressing for wounds).
