Lightening - Engagement - Dropping
« on: April 21, 2005, 05:18:52 PM »
Am around 31 weeks (depending on the due date) and the baby has dropped. Yikes! Midwife says not to worry, until other signs of labor start to appear, but it is a very, very weird feeling.

Is this your first baby? My first son dropped at the end of my 7th month. Bathroom every five minutes!
My last son didnt drop till the last two weeks and he head never engaged due to his size. I had a c/s.
How are you feeling otherwise?

2nd baby, which is why I am a little, hmm, concerned (I am not ready for an early baby!). Can't remember if my first dropped this early, I think she didn't go this early but this pregnancy has been a little different. I am carrying much lower (especially now, ha ha), haven't had the heartburn I had with my daughter.

Other than the drop, feeling fine, in fact the dropping has made me feel less pregnant, I can breathe and move around much easier than I could. It is a bit uncomfortable as the baby is really low now, and the enjoyment I was getting out of his activity is not so much fun now, feels like he is scraping bone rather than just poking around. I just can't imagine going the next two months with him engaged!

Since Jack didnt drop till the very end I was pretty much miserable throughout. The last 8 weeks I was given a maternity belt for support as I was HUGE and my pelvis started separating. OUCH. Jack was just 2 oz short of 11lbs at birth (only 38 weeks) so you can imagine my girth! lol And because he didnt drop till the end I felt like a little egg cup with a HUGE humpty dumpty egg sitting on top!
Well with light heartburn you should be feeling fine but if you start to get too uncomfortable tell your midwife to give you something for support. I was sent to a physio therapist.
Oh by the way my H/B was so bad I was swigging Mylanta out of the bottle which I kept next to the bed. BLAH!
Ah, isnt it just wonderful being a woman!

Ouch on the pelvis, that sounds awful!

I did the Gaviscon by the bed for my first kid. Got it by the bed now but don't reach for it half as much (knock on wood).  It was pretty miserable the first time round.

As long as the kid is ok, I'm ok with where he sits. Just thought this was a bit unusual, but I suppose every pregnancy has its quirks.

Don't you love the bladder secret of motherhood no one ever tells you about? I.e., wonderful being a woman indeed.  ::)

My daughter dropped by the end of the 7th month, too.  I started walking like John Wayne.  I could feel her hands touching my bladder.  EEeeeewww!  Felt SO weird!

My kids never really 'dropped".....but I'm only 5'2" with a really short torso, so there really wasn't anywhere for them to drop to!  :o  They spent most of their 9 months confinement using my bladder as a trampoline....I feel your pain!!!  ;)
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I had the same situation.  Wasn't any sort of real "dropping," just that wee bit more pressure, you know?

Philip dropped crazy early as well, and oh that was not fun on my pelvis. :/ I carrried so low through the whole pregnancy that I couldn't even wear most maternity pants, and had to wear dresses.  ::)
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!
