Im in the US and am looking for a job in the UK. I get positive replies, but EVERY job I apply to seems to be an agency. I dont know its an agency until I already apply because I use reed.co.uk which is a good site otherwise.
I really dont want to work for an agency because (at least from my experience) theyre too often sleazy and/or dont know what theyre doing. And the jobs Im looking for arent exactly hard to come by. I have experience in mental health, so thats what Im looking for and I know that you can walk into any mental health facility and they will have LOADS of job vacancies because nobody with any sense wants those jobs. Why should I enrich an agency for "finding" me?
So are agencies just virtually the only way people get jobs there or can I deal directly with the hospitals and facilties? Also, is there any way to find out how reputable a particular agency is? Im suspicious of one place that replied because it seems they deal almost exclusively with finance jobs, but the particular jobs I responded to were mental health-related. Mental health is not finance and the jobs were not listed on their corporate website (only on reed.co.uk )
