Scale Or tape measure?

which do you think is better? was directed to this article and was  wondering  how you all are handling the ever progressing you!!

I usually try and do both -- weigh and measure. But I'm never sure if I'm measuring myself correctly or in exactly the same place each time I do it. Unless there's a drastic difference in inches, I find it hard to gauge success with a tape measure ... perhaps because I suck my gut in when I measure??  ;)

I do both.  There are times when the scale shows no change, but the measuring tape does, or the other way around.  I'm one of those people who really love charts and spreadsheets and stuff, so I love measuring my progress in as many ways as possible!

When I was on low carbs before I just used a tape measure and my old clothes as a guage. I didnt have a scale nor did I have the desire to get one.  Now I have a digital scale so I do both. The digital scale is good because at least you see SOMETHING each day. Even if its just 2oz.
Im doing the tape measure also now that Im on SBD.

I use the scale and also how my clothing fits.  I have a few items that I wear when I'm at my 'ideal size'...so I use them as a measure of how I'm doing...right now they are not fitting well.  :-[  But soon!!!

I weigh daily, chart it monthly and measure quarterly. I have excel spreadsheets and charts with stickers on the fridge.  ::)  I also track my exercise with stickers on a little calendar I made. Color-coded stickers. Sad, eh.

in the states  I used to  put stars on days I exercised..I am a teacher and positve re enforcement!!  my goal was to get 20 stars at least!!

I do weigh myself now that we have a digital scale, but still find it depressing! Instead of a tape measure I use a certain pair of jeans e to tell me if I'm on the right track.

Cleanly washed- not worn for a few days. Although I see better results with unwashed jeans  ;)

I'm told  an outfit that starts out tight and then keep trying it on during various points in the  new "lifestyle".. ;D

Neither!!! (or tape measure if you must)

Weight fluctuates incredibly from person to person, from day to day, from week to week.  Throw your scales away - it doesn't give you the best picture!  The best things to measure are things that directly determine weight - that you have full control over (hormones, water, food - all have more immediate control over your weight than you would like). 

These "best things" to measure include 1)number of exercises, 2)length of exercise, 3)type of exercise, 4)heart rate, steps taken, etc AND caloric intake.  To help you out, look into getting a heart rate monitor (Polar makes great ones).  These often come equiped with software that tracks all of this for you and lets you export to Excel.

Just an opinion...but it's one I've used in working with morbidly obese people to get great results.

That, and my US doc, before I left -- said -- 'You should always try to leave yourself feeling still hungry.' 

Is that good advice, Carolyn?? I've always been taught that you should never leave yourself feeling hungry! You just need to eat lots of the right kinds of foods (again, easier said than done), and that way you'll always feel satisfied! But don't be hungry!!

I think the best advice for me would be to stop eating when I'm full -- I've had to train myself to recognise the sensation of being full.  If I left myself hungry, I'd eat like a monster as soon as I saw something halfway edible!  ;D
