Body of an American, soul of a Manc...
« on: October 02, 2003, 10:30:40 PM »
Hallo Everybody!

I am new to this site.I have recently returned to the States from a "pilgrimage" to Manchester.Needless to say,I fell in love with the city,as it had been a dream of mine since I was 15(I am now 31)to visit/move there. The downside is that now I really want to move there.I currently reside in San Francisco and I work as a barber and hairstylist(12 years in the biz).To be honest,I really need a major change in my life at this point, and would like to leave soon.I have always felt Manchester was calling to me as if I was a lost son,and the moment I stepped off the plane,I felt an all-consuming feeling of being "home".Maybe it's because I am a musician who has immersed myself in the Manc sound since I was about ten.Maybe it's the poetic history of the North.I am not quite sure, but it's a feeling I can't shake, nor do I want to.

I would appreciate any help I could get about this matter.I have checked out the UK Immigration sites,Visas, even job sites. It seems very difficult for one who is not 21,in school, rich,or getting married to a Brit. And the official government sites, though highly detailed, are a bit cryptic. Is this move even possible?

Cheers!

Hi Sonic.  Welcome to UK Yankee.  I think you'll find loads of information here.  But most of all you'll have the opinions and facts of people that have been in your shoes.  Most have probably taken the routes you mentioned in your post.  So it will be really interesting for us to hear errr read about your story.  Making a move for the sake of personal growth sounds like it will be a good story to hear err read.

P.S. I think anything is possible.  But like most things they work out best when you make plans.
