Urgent help needed
« on: May 27, 2005, 10:16:27 PM »
Ill be heading to Chicago to gain entry clearance this upcoming Tuesday. One of the items I will have to bring is bank statements from the past three months. My problem is this, I let my girlfriend, who is British, use my debit card to help with rent so all of her transactions will be on my statements.

Do you think this is something they will be funny about? Am I wrong to have let my girlfriend use my debit card?

I for one can't see why that would be an issue.  You take responsibility for your debts, so no problem.

I think the reason they look at bank statements is to make sure you have enough money to sustain yourself without 'recourse to public funds'.  When I presented my statements - and I took all of them... 401k, savings, retirement -- the balances looked so big, they just glanced at them.  The folks at the Consulate don't want to bring in any more folks that will end up living off the state.  Bring the biggest, fattest numbers you can find - I even brought my house appraisal since I was selling it.  PS - they did accept printed statements from online sources (e-statements).  Good Luck!

Eeek Ive only got $1500 in the bank, will that be sufficient?  :o

Also, my bank didnt give me my statement for May, partially due to the fact that May is not over yet, although I do have a bank receipt that says I have $1500 in my account...do you think this will be an issue?

You can look up your May transactions online and then print them out.
