National Insurance No. Interview/ US Social Security No.

Hi,

Is it common to ask for your US Social Security Number at the interview?  The job centre said that it was required but did not know why! Does the Inland Revenue report UK earnings to the US (IRS)?  Confused

I wasn't asked for mine at the interview...but that was nearly a year ago, so things might've changed since then.

Think of the source -- the job centre.  What do they REALLY do there?!!!!   

I was asked for mine, that was in Feb 2005.  I didn't have my card with me though, and she said it wasn't a problem.

I was asked if I happen to know mine--- I get the impression it is just another proof of identity not a big thing at all.
