Urgent Work Permit Q

So my best girlfriend here has resigned due to family reasons, and a bit of job reasons as well.  She came over here on a work permit and her spouse did as well

Now i'm not sure if they both have work permits or if he is a spouse on her work permit.

But we think they each have 2 separate work permits through our company.  The question below is to be answered as such:

Now since she is resigning and going home to spend a few months with her sibling who is severely ill, can she come back and work as a spouse of a work permit holder?  How long will the paperwork take?

Our company is trying to help her sort herself out, but since she won't be coming back to this company, i doubt they will do everything for her.  I am trying to put her mind at rest as she has enough going on right now.

She thinks she'd like to return back in April, hopefully things with her sib might have cleared by then and she'll be in a better place.  It will be hard as her hubs would stay here-but we're talking about all options here.

If he has a valid work permit, then she can apply while overseas to enter the UK as his spouse.  This kind of application can take as little as a few days.

However, if he has quite his job as well, he will need to get a new work permit through his new employers.

he would be staying at the company we are all employed at.

she would be going to the US for a few months  (we think) and then returning to find a job at a new company.  but our current company wishes to help her as much as poss.

No probs then.

While she is in the US she can just apply to come back as a dependent.
