Anyone been on a helicopter flight?

We are holidaying in Niagara Falls late June/early July and I'm trying to work up enough courage to hop on a helicopter flight over Niagara...I think its like £41 for ten minutes (ridiculouts!!) but its a once in a lifetime experience....

Problem is that I hate flying !!!!just wondering what it feels like in a helicopter?  Do you feel all the ups and downs? 

I took a sightseeing helicopter flight over Rio de Janiero a few years ago and it was great.  It definitely wasn't a horribly bumpy ride, it's just different than an airplane and causes a different sensation.  I don't think they go high enough to be really affected by the airpressure and such.  They also go a lot slower and I remember feeling as if it was more controlled than a plane and had more range of manuevering.  That made me feel better.  The only part I didn't love, was the glass bottom, it just made me nervous.  But that could have just been the helicopter I was on.  All in all it was a great experience and till this day it has been the best way to see a city.

I have flown quite a bit in helicopters and the first time will be exciting! Like you said its a once in a life time expierience. GO FOR IT!!

I went on a helicopter flight in Alaska, over the forest and glaciers.

I figured because my mom didn't take any motion sickness pills, that I guess I'd be okay not to.  Thing is, she did, and didn't tell me.

Going, I was fine (we landed smack on a glacier!); coming back, a bit queasy, but not tooooo bad... and wouldn't have missed a view like that for anything!  What's a little air sickness when you're looking at grizzly bears, eagles' nests, and the forest ending at a glacier  !!
 

Anyone interested in LOTR or Sean Bean trivia (and for those of you have the extended dvd will know):  they had to take a helicopter to the top of the mountain for the scene in the snow - where Boromir picks up the ring and has a little monologue - Sean Bean was terrified and clinging to his seat the whole way up, and refused to take a helicopter thereafter!  They would fly over and actually see him below, climbing over the hills to get to the location!

I work offshore quite a bit and have been on many many helicopter flights, sometimes through storms.  I feel very safe in them, in fact the first thing I usually do is fall asleep.  Once you're in the air, you can't feel the ups and downs very much.  The one thing that always makes me prefer helicopters to airplanes, is that helicopter pilots are trained to be able to "land" even without any engines, because the lowering of the helicopter should keep the blades rotating at least a little bit.  So I feel like if all of the engines went down, there is at least a better chance of survival than in an airplane!  Plus, helicopters seem so much more maneuverable than planes.  I think you should definitely take advantage of the opportunity!
