We Win Again!
« on: June 11, 2005, 10:05:37 PM »
I was thinking about how so many of us female Americans who have married British men and have immigrated to the UK talk about how our husbands are the best.  I see it over and over on the pages of this board.  And, I know, my husband is the most considerate, caring, nurturing and loving man I have ever known.  Yet, I hear other women (British women) complaining about how inconsiderate their husbands and boyfriends are; they complain and whine about the way their men treat them.  And, the thing is, I see some of these men, and the wives are right about them a lot of the time.  So, I was thinking about it; apparently we Yanks have found and gotten all the good ones.  He he he....we win again!  ;D  I told my DH about my theory and he said I ought to post it as a topic...and so, I have.
I was born in the Summer and at Night...my mother named me AUTUMN DAWN.  True story.

Jamie's...beyond the stars and past eternity.

Maybe it's cultural -- perhaps American women (in general) have different expectations of men and end up with a certain type of British male?   ???

I think it's fair to say that there are nice and not-so-nice people everywhere.   :)

I know alot of nice husbands here, but I think everybody has their little quirks and what would work for someone might not work for someone else.  Sometimes if you hear someone talk about the negative you think that's all there is to it, but I'm sure they have their good points as well.

This is a very good topic. One which I was thinking of posting for a year.  I swear they broke the mold when they made my Frank. I thought at first it must be a Brit thing because he was the only man I have ever met that was so considerate and warm, thoughtful and caring but then I started listening to my Brit girlfriends moan about their horrible Brit husbands! Then I realized men are men no matter where you go. I mean 5 years ago I wouldnt have another American man for a gift but now of course I realize I was just very unlucky with my American exhusbeast. I believe Frank is my soulmate and we were meant to be together whether he was British, American, French or African.
Also just wanted to mention I have met a few American ladies here and in the USA with Brit husbands that I wouldnt spit on. But maybe for them this man is their soulmate and they are made for each other. Maybe to these gals they would cringe at my husband. Takes all types I guess!  ;)

Oh I don't know... my husband can be a real jerk sometimes.  ;) And I'm sure he'd say the same thing about me. Should do, anyway!
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Excellent topic!

There are days when I KNOW I do NOT deserve my hubs -- then -- there are days (and nights) where he's TMISBW =(the man I share a bed with!)

Another factor for me is -- this is my second marriage -- it took ALOT to get me to even consider marriage again (being married to Satan the first time!).

Yesterday was a good day -- anxiety and nervousness all day long -- and there he was -- ready to talk me through it and provide the right amount of encouragement too!

Having come over for a job and done the dating thing...plus hanging out with many guys through the hockey & cricket clubs, I can say that there are just as many good guys as bad ones compared to the US.  I think I've lucked out in finding my guy (almost 8 months of dating!) and have some friends who have good guys (who have their moments) but there are definitely idiots as well (I dated one of those first over here!).
