Question about visa application
« on: June 15, 2005, 03:30:22 PM »
Hello all, just looking for a little advice.  On the form to fill out for my visa, question 5.11 is "Have you lived with your sponsor in a relationship like a marriage at any time (including since a wedding)?  My fiance was just here (America) for 9 weeks, during which time he lived with me, of course.  Should I include that?

Thanks in advance,
Jenn

Well, I would say yes because I did say yes to this question.  However, we lived together for longer than 9 weeks - I came over last year and we got married within the 6 months I was allowed without a visa, then I went back to the States to get my visa.  In my app I stated the time we lived together - as a couple, of course.

Yes, you want it in there, along with his airline ticket stubs and pictures of the two of you together when he was there - it is proof of a "real relationship", which is what they want to see.  The burden of proof is on you and you must provide them evidence of said real relationship; this will help.

I would also say yes, because I believe what the officials are watching out for are arranged marriages in which the parties have never met.  That's a red flag issue to them.

Yeah, exactly; that's why I edited my post, adding that last bit, because of that reason.

Put yes.  Even for as short a time as a week-end in a whirl-wind romance.   The question is a carry-over from an older generation of forms, but in it's current format, it's just a convoluted way of asking if you are seriously acquainted with each other - in the *biblical* sense...

LOL, yeah.  They want to know if you've been intimate. ~~shudders remembering being interrogated by immigration~~  They get personal so they are satisfied that this isn't a marriage of convenience.
