Student visa - proof of funds...
« on: May 25, 2005, 07:24:46 PM »
I got a letter from Univ of Leeds....

"I write to confirm that the above student is expected to register at the Univ. of Leeds for a course of study leading to the postgraduate degree of MA International Studies in September 2005. As an American Citizen she is entitled to, and will apply for, a Federal Stafford Loan to the value of $18,500."

IS that sufficient? I don't have the loan yet - I have applied for it. Should I include the application? Should I call Sallie Mae (loan processor) for a letter from them?

I hate this process!  :-\\\\

For your visa?  Send everything you have.. the letter from your uni, proof from your lender, bank statements.  Every penny counts.  :)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

I'm sending the ltr from uni the letter of support from my brit bf that will be housing and feeding me...

I was concerned about the letter from the Univ of Leeds looking rather unsupportive. I am calling my lender asap to see what they can contribute for me.

Love the process!  :P

It's not unsupportive.  It's almost exactly what I got from my uni.  :)  It'll be ok!

I would give a call to the univ. if you can and just confirm what they expect you to have in your pocket when you start. My first year they wanted me to have tuition plus £10,000 for living expenses. At first I thought it was enough to say that my (then) bf was supporting me, but as it turned out, they needed to see either something proving he owned the house we'd be living in (which he didn't) or a bank statement for that £10K from him..... Though I don't mean to worry you at all by telling you that - all uni.s are different, and your Stafford loan might be fine for yours. Just make sure you dot the i's and cross the t's!

He is submitting all the necessary docs. He is submitting his lease w/ a ltr from the landlord allowing me to live there. He has all the work/tax forms plus bank statements.  It's just like someone sponsoring on a spouse visa - he's used all the info from there to submit for this one.

I am about to go through this same process.  Could I ask you, or anyone else who has been through this - will they ask you about your relationship with your sponsor?  Will they care?  My BF will not be providing me with support, but I will be living with him.

Thank for any help!

you need PROOF of Funds! I was denied my visa last week when I went up to NYC b/c I did not have an APPROVED loan. I had letters proving that I was applying for them and that they are being processed. That was not enough and she turned me around and sent me on my way.   :\\\'(

So I am now down the throats of the Uni (conveniently, she's on holiday this week) and the loan company (cooperative, at least). I was livid that I spent all that time and got false info from the Uni. They didn't question our relationship w/ my sponsor, she hardly got that far. I can say it was intimidating and I am mailing it in this time.

On the upside...I saw someone get approved for their marriage visa (thurs, June 9 - was it anyone on here?). That was a good thing to see :)

I thought you had proof from your lender that you had been approved for a loan.  Was all you had your letter from the Uni?  Gotta have proof from your lender, bank statements, etc.  They care about dollar amounts attached to your name.
You'll get approved next time.  You weren't outright denied a visa, just told to bring back other proof, correct?

yes, just told to bring back proof, sorry for the mixup. I had a letter from both the lender and the uni stating I had applied, but not yet had it all approved. My brit bf was with me and he said he had a feeling this wasn't going to work. I then said, then why did we come!? Neither here nor there, it will be done in the next few weeks and I'll be able to schedule my flight for August finally.

btw, saw a psychic for fun in NYC and she said that we will be together by September, so I have faith :)
