Yeah, that's pretty normal. I don't know why they do it, perhaps one of the employers on the forum can tell you but I think it could be so they know if they have to make an offer soon or whatnot. That's just a guess but I got asked that several times.

I've had recruiters asking me this questin, but this didn't come up in my interview here.
