Hey, quick question for you?
How exactly did you go about getting that work permit of yours? What is involved in the process and how do you get a company to go along with it? You said that you employed a solicitor, how necessary is that and could you recommend a good one? An help you could provide for me would be much appreciated Thank you much.
-Sir Sparkly
To be quite fair, for me it was necessary to get a solicitor. She provided all the legal advice but it is possible to get a work permit without one. I probably would advise against it considering its a work permit and a solicitor would be able to help you with all the required documents, however it is spendy...about 470 pounds to be exact.
I went through Gherson & Co. My solicitor was extremely nice but I found she made things wishy washy and the process took 10 months. But Toni & Guy were extremely busy so the documents were slowly given to her which Im sure had something to do with the long wait.
I had to go to London to do a consultation with her to make sure I was competent for the position and you need to bring your passport and CV. I dont know if this varies with other lawfirms.
I found the documents I had to come up with werent very difficult to obtain. They include your CV, any Diploma or Degree, you must prove youve worked at least 3 years in your profession with a letter from your previous employer stating the details of your position.
Im not sure what Toni & Guy had to provide but it was a lot of information, including a copy of their lease, dimensions of their salon, employees salaries, and submit an advertisement for the position for at least a month in an E.U. certified publication with details of any replies, and they had to provide me a salary of at least 18000 pound a year.
It sounds like a lot of work but Im only 21 and I got it so if I can do it you can. Please do not hesitate to ask me questions but I do highly recommend getting a solicitor to lighten the load.
May I ask what is your current situation?
Sorry about that Stacey, Ill be in Nottingham. The closest consulate is in Chicago and now I will be driving there because my solicitor also advised me against the 12 hour delay....
