Pregnant lady seeking employment

So I've got an interview with a temp agency in Ely, 4 days after we move back there. I'm quite excited about it, I've been hoping to get another job before I pop the baby out.

But then there comes my question. Since it's a temp agency, I didn't figure they'd have a problem with me saying I can only work for the next 6 months or so - right? I'm a bit nervous that I'm going to get grief about it, or that they won't hire me. If they can't place me and I have to apply for just a normal retail job, like at Boots or something, can they (or will they) not hire me just because I'm pregnant? Is it against the law?

... hoping I get a job... spending money is good... spending money is helpful...

Personally, I wouldn't say anything.  Go for the interview, hopefully get some offers and take it from there.  Six months is a long time and people's circumstances change.  I'm sure you're not obliged to tell them -unless they ask you directly.  I got a job (in the states) when I was pregnant with my first, so it can be done and as long as you're feeling OK there shouldn't be a problem.  

I agree with Mindy... you're so early into your pregnancy, I wouldn't say a word.  It's entirely possible that someone in your same position wouldn't even know they're pregnant.  So even when it comes out later, you just "didn't know" at the time.  No point giving someone an extra reason to not hire you... it's hard enough as is.

Marlespo, can you sign with a temp agency for long term?  Instead of a day or a week, work in one place for a month or more?  Is there such a thing.  I can do this here in Boston.  I would be looking for something like that in Wales as well.

P.S. to Buffy.  Ummm I don't mean to offend but I found your picture with Andrew (recent) to be charming.  I didn't think you were B.U.F.F.Y.  Actually I like that picture of you two more than this one you use currently.  You looked soft, dreamy =  lovely.   Just my opinion.

I'm hoping that the temp agency does assignments for a month or so - that would be ideal for me anyway, instead of a few days here and a few days there - I'll find out on Sept. 4 - fingers crossed.

I'll keep mine crossed for you as well.  A little extra luck can't hurt right?

UPDATE: I went in for my interview a few days ago at the temp agency and it went so, so well! I've always been really good at job interviews, and was really happy to continue my streak. I did end up telling her I was pregnant for a few reasons: A. I wanted to explain why I didn't want a full-time job and preferred to stay as a temp, B. I had to ask if it was okay to be taking off time to go to my doctor and mid-wife appointments, etc, C. I suck a lying, I really really do and D. I look pregnant, including the sea-bands I won't take off! I suppose since she never knew me before she might not know I'm preggers by looking at me, but everyone else I know can! I'm going to be a fatty fatty two by four. ANYWAY.... the intervew went brilliantly, she's already called me about a job (that I had to turn down because of it's location) - but she's really keen on finding work for me. Also - she said that even though I'm preggers and only want to work for the next 5 or 6 months, that I'd be a long-term employee of theirs by then, as most people are only there a brief time before they get hired on permanently or leave for school or whatever, so she was actually really happy to have me for so long. Whee!

well well well Congratulations Marlspo.  Thats wonderful.  I was hoping the long term tempting thing would work out.  You'll still feel a part of the crew at work not so disposable.  You'll see.  Its a good feeling to make a good impression isn't it.  You have to impress the counselor (whatever) you speak to first anyway.  She will now sing your praises to prospective employers.  Good luck on Phase II.

Well she called me again with another job, I only interviewed 3 days ago! I'm going to take this one, it starts next Tuesday and is only for a 2 week run, but I'll be doing basic secretary stuff while covering somebody's holiday... I'm quite excited! I'mm have to take a taxi there and back but oh well, that won't be so bad, it's only for 2 weeks, and whee! hopefully they love me, I do great and my temp agency rep will think I'm the bees knees and I'll keep getting work. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.......

To me the best part of doing things like that is that you might be able to apply at some of these places when it comes to looking for permanent work.  Since you have the contacts and they've already "sampled" your work it could give you leads when the times right.  Especially if you stay in this area that you love.  Good luck.
