Paying 1st month's rent from the states

Hi,

My wife and I will be moving to Aberdeen this September.  We're trying to arrange to rent a flat in Aberdeen from the States before we fly over.  I'm having a friend check it out and I've seen lots of pictures.  My problem is how do I pay the security deposit and first month's rent from the united states.  Do letting agencies usually accept credit cards, or can I have the money transferred to their bank account.  I'm sure a money order would cost a ton so I'd like to avoid that.  If anyone has any experience I'd appreciate it.

Most will accept credit cards though they will charge you more for it...service charges and all.  The other thing you might be able to do is wire money to them from your bank account to their bank account (this is what I did over here).  I would talk to the actual agent about how they might want to get paid.

Would your friend be willing to do it for you, then you could just do an international transfer from your bank to his (you'll need the a/c number/sort code/international route number, bank address) the fees generally only cost about £10.

This is also how you can do a transfer directly to the estate agent...most of the agencies have accounts that people pay into anyway by direct debit.
