double bedroom and single bedroom
« on: June 15, 2005, 02:27:11 AM »
I have been looking for apartments online just to have an idea what to expect. We live in Los Angeles right now so the prices for rent don't look too bad at all. What I don't understand is the sizes of these apartments. It usually does'nt say how big the rooms are but it says double bedroom or single.  From your experience how small is usually a single bedroom. Right now my daughter's room is about 9x6. I hope to find something at least the same size.  Well if any of you has any advice for me it will be appreciated.

I was told that a double bedroom will hold a queen or king size bed comfortably. (queen is a double and king is a queen in the UK to US comparison chart)

A single will just about hold a single bed, they are usually on the small side.  I find the doubles on the small side as well, but that is just me!

I was looking at a flat that described a 9' x 7' as a small double.  Basically it could fit a double bed and little else...so it's a double.  If you see an ad for a single bedroom, I'd just ask the person what the dimensions are!

I have one bedroom which is 10 x 8, and I would say that's about as small as you want for a single, nevermind a double.

Watch out for a description which includes the term "box room."    In realtor-speak it means it's a room which is just about large enough to contain a large cardboard box!   ;D

LOL.  Yeah.  It's little more (and sometimes less) than a closet!
